- I am
extremely well-versed in the English
language. Since I was little, I was
always ahead in reading skills, and in
writing. As I grew older, I excelled in
my English courses and was an overall
good student. Because of my interest in
the English language, I decided to
major in English Literature at the
University of Connecticut in which I
received my BA.
- After
college, I happened upon a position in
a publishing company (Scholastic, Inc.,
formerly Grolier, Inc.) and ended up
working there for 17 years working in
production editing and electronic
publishing. I lost my position with the
company due to downsizing.
- I am
now available 7 days a week for
freelance work.

- 2005:
Substitute Teacher
Connecticut Regional School District
#14
- For
elementary school level, handled
lesson plans for absent teacher to
maintain class consistency in
learning and behavior.
- Required
a general knowledge of all subject
matter and the ability to understand
young children while handling a
range of classroom
situations.
- 2000 -
2005: Senior Product Development
Specialist
Scholastic, Inc.
- Went
into a pre-existing Access database
to find URLs and to test them in an
actual browser to see if they were
dead or not. If dead, searched the
Internet to find out if they existed
under a differing URL. Marked
database records
accordingly.
- Opened
XML and SGML files in Epic editing
software and proofed them. Opened
SGML files in XMetal editing
software and proofed
them.
- Engineers
gave me scripts to follow from which
I typed in commands into an Epsilon
window to run programs that would
place text and photos into a web
environment. I accessed browsers to
test articles in our online
encyclopedia products to find
engineering and editorial errors and
to report them to the engineers and
editors respectively to
fix.
- Made
sure all my weekly, bi-weekly,
monthly and quarterly deadlines were
met.
- Trained
new employees on processes and led
teams during production cycles to
meet deadlines for product
development.
- 1993-2000:
Product Development Specialist
Grolier, Inc.
- Performed
editing, copy editing and
proofreading tasks.
- Opened
SGML files in Author/Editor editing
software to test and fix linked
words that would link to other
articles. Opened HTML files in
Epsilon windows to check and fix
links to other parts of text,
articles, or websites. Opened
FilemakerPro databases to type in
record numbers to link pictures to
articles or vice versa.
- Helped
testing department by testing all
aspects of new products on a variety
of browser platforms and operating
systems. Typed bugs into a
FilemakerPro database.
- 1988-1993:
Production Editor
Grolier, Inc.
- Maintained
logging records that tracked when
page proofs, galleys, blues and
transparencies were in-house or
out-of-house. If they were in-house,
also logged where they were within
the department; ie with editors,
artists, photo research etc. and at
what stage in the production
flow.

production process were
met.

- Worked
closely with printers, binderies and
color separators.
